Narrative
Patsy Delacroix has watched The Price Is Right every weekday since 1974 and has never been wrong about a showcase. Argue if you want. I'd sooner kick a wasp nest in my church shoes.
The Legion craft fair opened at nine, in the same hall where the parade had just crashed to a halt. The Methodist men's group had made a life-size plywood Bob Barker for a photo booth. Fifty cents a picture. Patsy paid. Looked at him a good long while.
Wrong hair color. Wrong microphone shape. She told the men they ought to be ashamed of that damn thing, and they laughed. Well, shit. You don't laugh during an inspection.
She knocked his head off with her pocketbook.
“That is not Bob,” she told the Sheriff from a folding chair, red-striped blouse and pink bow, dressed nice for a day nobody had managed to deserve. “You don't get to make a Bob. Especially not that sorry-ass Bob.”
Bless her heart, she'd paid for a picture with somebody she'd eaten lunch with for twenty-one years. They'd handed her lumber with a haircut.
Dwight shot her right there under the BOB BARKER sign, head hanging, jaw set. Come on down. Mind the head.
